  17. <p>     ABU NIDAL may be the world's most wanted terrorist, but
  18. you wouldn't know it these days. The 1980s' mastermind of such
  19. horrific attacks as the bombings of an Istanbul synagogue and
  20. the Rome and Vienna airports now keeps an office in Jidda, has
  21. held meetings with French and British government officials and
  22. goes on shopping sprees in London's West End for hand-tailored
  23. suits and Cuban cigars. Seems the Saudis have become his
  24. sponsors. Their time-honored calculus: the enemy of my enemy is
  25. my friend. Abu Nidal is the blood enemy of P.L.O. chief Yasser
  26. Arafat, who backed Saddam Hussein during the gulf war. The heat
  27. on Abu Nidal is down so low that he reportedly was able to slip
  28. into a Boston hospital last summer for surgery.
