- <p> ABU NIDAL may be the world's most wanted terrorist, but
- you wouldn't know it these days. The 1980s' mastermind of such
- horrific attacks as the bombings of an Istanbul synagogue and
- the Rome and Vienna airports now keeps an office in Jidda, has
- held meetings with French and British government officials and
- goes on shopping sprees in London's West End for hand-tailored
- suits and Cuban cigars. Seems the Saudis have become his
- sponsors. Their time-honored calculus: the enemy of my enemy is
- my friend. Abu Nidal is the blood enemy of P.L.O. chief Yasser
- Arafat, who backed Saddam Hussein during the gulf war. The heat
- on Abu Nidal is down so low that he reportedly was able to slip
- into a Boston hospital last summer for surgery.
